Dear Patricia,
This is going to come out all wrong, but as I'm a heinous
procrastinator, I just need to write to you and say thank you. You
and your videos changed and saved my life. Okay so, my name is Liv
(Olivia) and I am seventeen years old; I've been struggling with
Bipolar Disorder for most of my life. Due to my natural ups and
downs, mixed-in eating disorders, and low self-esteem--wow, I make
myself sound terrific--I have never been able to commit to any
exercise program. I was really unsatistfied and grossed out by myself
when I found your Yoga Cardio Burn DVD amidst my mom's exercise DVD
collection. I liked yoga, but I'd never been able to commit to it for
a long enough time. Now, I've been doing your Yoga video every day
for like six months, and I feel FLIPPIN' FANTASTIC. I have the
strength and confidence to do other yoga programs as well, and now I'm
an exercise freak and I love to move! I started doing the Intensati
workout and the Core Cross Train DVD a couple months ago, and I am
just so amazed and flabbergasted w/ how far I've come. With the
balance issues that come along w/ the Lithium, I never thought I could
dance--but I've learned that I'm actually a pretty fabulous dancer,
and I LOVE IT! I've never really tried dancing before, but now that
I've tried it, I realize I'm in love---with dancing--, and I dance all
the friggin' time. I'll take the moves that you taught me on the
video and make my own sequences and sometimes I even make my own
moves. Hey, I probably look like a fool, but I'm happy, so what the
heck. IWho's to see anyway? Haha. I never thought positivity could
get me this far. Before I found you and your videos--i sound like a
born-again Christian...no offense intended....--I rode my emotions
like some daredevil ship on the tempestuous seas, yes, but now I have
the motivation to just pimp my way up the latter. I walk
differently. I just exist differently--I'm so positive it scares
people, but heck, they've gotten used to it. And best of all, I can
stroll down the city streets in jeans without having some awkward
tunic dress cleverly stretched over my thighs to hide any jiggliness--
I am just so happy, and I feel beautiful. Thank you! Your inspiration
is remarkable.
Send me your story and inspire others to live a life they love in a body they love!

Day 8 No Sugar
I am happy to report that this is day 8 no sugar. I think the thing that is most surprising is how much I am really craving it. I honestly thought it would be much easier than it is. In my mind I wasn't even really having that much sugar. The things I cut out from my diet are, agave in my oatmeal in the morning or in my tea. If I had toast or an english muffin I would have honey or Jam on it. In cut out fruit which normally I would have in the afternoon. I also cut out the piece or two of dark chocolate I would have at night before bed. I also cut out all yogurt, even plain yogurt and I switched my bread from whole wheat to gluten free.
What I have added that has helped a lot is lots of water with lemon and stevia. I am drinking a fermented drink called coco biotics. I found it on Donna Gates website. She wrote the book, Body Ecology Diet. It is said to improve digestion, reduce sugar cravings, increase energy and improve liver cleansing.
So when I have the sugar cravings I realize it has nothing to do with hunger but really just a habit. I just have to let it pass and it always does. What is really helping is that I am committed to the 30 days and no matter what. So even when a craving does show up I know I am not going to give in to it so it just goes away. It also really helps to blog about it because it keeps me committed.
Honestly I think the thing that feels the best is not even getting the sugar out of my body but the feeling I feel when I don't give in to a craving. I have given up many other things before and I think it is a good practice to upgrade your habits and to train yourself to get yourself to do what you really want to get yourself to do. It takes practice and it takes self discipline but like everything it is a practice.
What this practice will provide you with is freedom. The freedom to choose what you want to do and follow through.
I highly recommend you pick one habit to upgrade. Pick anything but pick something. It doesn't have to be that big. It can be anything you think will improve your life. Make it easy enough that you will succeed but challenging enough that you will gain self discipline from it. Remember it is not only about the result you will get from improving the habit but the inner strength and self respect you will build in taking it on.
What are you willing to do to improve your health and well being?
Love,
Patricia

Day 3 No Sugar! Challenging today. Is being busy a good excuse?
My day started as usual today. I woke up at 6:30, did my meditation, ate breakfast and went to the gym. I did my workout then taught 2 classes and I was done by 11:30. But unlike my usual Friday I had two interviews back to back in two different locations set up. One at 12:00 then one at 1:00. I was late for the first one because I got lost. Yes I have been living here for over 15 years. I was already 15 minutes late for my next interview but I was so hungry I popped into the gym and grabbed some egg whites, not enough food but something to hold me over.
I got to my 1:00 appointment at 1:30 and we filmed the interview, (very fun by the way details to come) until about 3:00. Now I was late for my 3:00 appointment. I was so hungry I had to pop into the deli to see what I could find to eat. It was very challenging. Of course the only things I could see were the sugary things, fruits, cookies, candies, and other things I don't eat. Finally I grabbed a protein bar. The good news was that sugar was the 7th ingredient. My commitment was not to eat anything that had sugar listed as one of the first 5 ingredients.
I did learn a couple of things and I know that although sugar was the 7th ingredient, there were better choices I could have made.
What I learned.
1. Be prepared. Being busy is my life most of the time and using the excuse that I was too busy is just that, an excuse and not a very good one. If I would have been prepared I could have had food in my bag and eaten it in instead.
2. Don't go into a deli looking for food when I am on a NO sugar detox. It there was a salad bar where I could have made a quick salad, some protein or even an avocado or hard boiled eggs that would have been better. Stay out of stores that mostly sell junk food!
I really did keep my promise as I listed that I wouldn't eat anything that had sugar listed as one of the first 5 ingredients but I stopped eating protein bars a long time ago because really I think they are a glorified candy bar with a lot of calories and a lot of ingredients I can't pronounce or understand.
So "technically" I stuck to my commitment but really plan to make a better choice next time. i saw how easily today I could allow myself to come up with an "excuse" to not keep my commitment.
What I am noticing is this is harder than I thought it would be. I really didn't realize I was eating as much sugar as I was. I wasn't gobbling down cookies and candy bars but all the little things throughout the day added up.
I hope you are paying attention to how much sugar is sneaking into your diet and that this is helping you pay more attention to what you are putting into your body and will help you catch your excuses when you hear them as well.
Share your story, I would love to hear.

Day 2 no sugar. 7 tips for cutting the sugar cravings!
This is day 2 of my "no sugar" 30 day detox plan. I announced in class what I am doing and asked if anyone wanted to join me and I was surprised there were already a few who committed since Monday on their own. After I posted it on Facebook, many others jumped on the bandwagon. So whether or not you are joining me on an all out "no sugar" 30 day detox plan or not. I suggest you take this time to notice how much sugar you are having in your diet and begin cut it down.
Sugar can be just as addicting as any drug. The more we eat it, the more we crave it and for those who have a hard time losing weight, reducing sugar intake is the key to reducing cravings for sweets and simple carbs. I received an email from someone today who agreed to join me and asked how to deal with the cravings. Here are some tips.
1. You are going to have cravings for sugar so just be aware of it so you don't use the craving as an excuse to give in. Just feel the craving and do your best to put your attention on something else and leave the kitchen.
2. Detoxing your body will help reduce the cravings for sugar. Drink lots of water with lemon to help make your body more alkaline. This will help the cravings go away.
3. Remember that the cravings are not always physical but mental as well. If you are in the habit of eating chocolate every day at 3 or you always get a sugary coffee drink in the afternoon then replace that habit with a new, upgraded habit. Try licorice tea it is very sweet and can seriously help your sweet tooth.
4. The more sugar you eat, the more sugar you want to eat. The less you eat the less you want it and if you see it, you will want it. Clean out your cupboards, fridge and secret hiding places of all sugary snacks and foods. Don't have it in your home. A craving only lasts because you focus on it over and over again. Every time you see the chocolate you are going to crave it. Just toss and be free!!
5. Don't be fooled by the "sugar free labels". I was shopping in whole foods and I saw all of these "no sugar cookies" that I have never seen before but they caught my eye like never before and I even considered giving them a try, for a second! When we make a decision to give up something it often is on our mind more than ever before. Those processed treats are still white flour, simple carbs and full of things you probably can't pronounce. Don't buy them!
6. Please don't replace sugar with artificial sweeteners. Now days there are so many good options that we really don't need to give up one bad thing for another. The chemicals in the artificial sweeteners simply don't belong in your body and can actually increase your craving for sugar.
7. Remember, once the sugar gets out of your system you will no longer crave it. Don't feed the pain feed the wellness. Once you break the sugar habit you can put it back in, in moderation but if your are really serious about making a change don't use the old trick, "just one". If you are a sugar addict that "just one" really means just one box.
Remember that it is certainly not easy to kick the sugar habit or change any habit for that matter. There are ways to get yourself to the other side. The number one thing that will help you follow through and do what you want to do is simply keep your word. Do what you say you are going to do even if you don't feel like it. When you can be someone who can get themselves to do what they really want to do, you are free and simple that leads to "thinner peace".
For more info on how to achieve thinner peace read my book "The intenSati method, 7 secret principles to thinner peace".

How will you value yourself this month?
In the month of February what else would we focus on but Love! We don't need a special month to focus on love but it is a good excuse to give it more attention. I invite you to focus on ways you can be more loving towards yourself this month and find ways to value and honor yourself.
I think it is safe to say we have all felt the power of love. When we are in love we feel empowered, happy and free. Whether we are in love with another person, our work, our pets or our self we feel good. Releasing energy from your energy system in love produces health and vitality. It lights up your energy centers. It produces feelings of gratitude, joy and fulfillment.
My goal this month is to go sugar free. I am feeling a little lethargic. I am going to LA for all of March to promote intenSati and do book signings and PR events and I want to feel my best. I was listening to a podcast by Donna Gates, who wrote a book called body ecology. I haven't read the book yet, but the podcast was enough to inspire me to take it on. (I did order her book and I will let you know after I read it what I think.) So today is day number 1. Want to join me?
Here are some good reasons eliminate sugar from your diet. This is from Donna Gate's website bodyecology.com

I am more powerful today and better in every way!
I have decided to dedicate February to inspiring everyone to focus on health and wellness. I recommend that you take your attention off of trying to lose weight or "get skinny" and instead ask yourself, "how can I improve how I feel?" I think many people think they need to either be on a diet or not and not simply means a free for all until you get yourself back on a diet again.
I suggest you totally drop the diet mentality and instead work on developing a health and wellness mentality. I believe that we can actually improve with age and if we treat our bodies well with good food, exercise and spiritual practice there is no reason we cannot live healthy, happy and well lives into old age.
The mantra I suggest you use for this month is "My body restores itself to perfect weight and perfect health, I am more powerful today, I am better in every way" and as you say that affirmation see the mental picture of what that means to you.
By shifting your mindset you will be shifting your mood, your attitude which will help you easily make better choices for yourself and when you make positive changes your health and weight will naturally improve.
What can you do this month that will improve your health and well-being? I'll give you some examples. Pick one or two but really follow through and train yourself to be consistent. Practice dedication to your well-being. Of course you might feel some discomfort in the process but it is your body doing it's work to restore itself to perfect weight and health.
Make health and wellness your number 1 priority. It is the key getting better with age! How often are you consistently working out? Can you increase it? Minimum recommended weekly exercise is 5 times a week at least 30 minutes a day. Can you get yourself to do at least that this month? Are you drinking soda, sugary drinks, alcohol more than 2 times a week? Can you decrease that? Do you drink enough water a day? 8 glasses a day? Can you increase it. Are you eating out more than 2 times a week? Can you decrease it? Are you eating organic fruits and vegetables? Can you increase it? Do you eat red meat? How often? Can you decrease it and choose grass fed, hormone free meat? How often in one day do you eat simple carbs like white rice, potatoes, white breads, or junk food? Can you decrease it this month? Go through the list of make your own. Pick one thing you will commit to improving this month and really do it. If you improve one thing then little by little you will see yourself improving with age instead of deteriorating with age. If you want this to be your best year yet, you need the body that will represent your best self! It is the only one you have. Focus on making it feel and look fabulous now!
If you haven't purchased "The intenSati method" You can buy it now on amazon.com. You can now also buy the intenSati workout dvd at satilife.com. IF not now, when?

The IntenSati Method, 7 secret principles to thinner peace. If not now, when?
What a great time of year this is! It feels like the opportunity to have a fresh new start. Are you ready to make this year your best year yet? Why not make this year a year dedicated finally doing what you really want to do? What if this is the year you finally do lose the weight, get healthy, find the job of your dreams or play and enjoy life more often? If not now, when?
How many times have you set new years resolutions just to find the excitement of making the change wearing off after just a few days? Well, I would like to give you some tips to help you fuel your passion and enthusiasm because if you learn to keep your inner fire lit, you will have the energy to keep taking powerful positive steps in the direction of your dreams.
Remember last year when you celebrated the beginning of 2009, time flies and this year is not different. In a snap of a finger it will be 2011. Don't let this year go by without doing that thing you really want to do! Why not make this truly your best year yet? Aim for success!
Step 1
1. A clear goal.
Pick one thing that you have a burning desire to accomplish, become or create. Your deep desire is your fire and it will help you accomplish great things if you fan the flame. Remind yourself every day how much you want it, you want it, you really really want it!!
2. Take action
You need an action plan. Do not worry about making it perfect just put a plan down on paper. Put down the things you can do right now to get started. No matter how big or small the actions are, write them down and start checking them off your list. As you move forward you will have new ideas and you can keep adding to your list. Take the first action by writing the plan. No plan no power!
3. Become obsessed by it
Those people that are successful in creating and living a life they love in a body they love are focused. They keep their attention on the final outcome that they want, always. Post your goal where you can see it, memorize it, fantasize about it, imagine it, create a vision board and keep the end result always in the forefront of your mind.
4. Be the master of your fate
Tell your mind what you want over and over and over again. When you repeat to yourself what you want it is like plugging into your GPS system your final destination. Your subconscious mind is your GPS system. It needs to know where you want to do and will find the faster route for you to get there. If you make a wrong turn it will guide you back on track. Your subconscious mind is your spiritual mind. Use your conscious mind to plug in the final destination and then follow your plan and your intuition.
5. Discipline or self control
Without mental discipline or self control you are the slave not the master of your mind. You must develop the ability to doubt your doubts, to affirm your faith in the laws of the universe, in yourself and in your abilities. When you hear yourself doubting yourself practice changing your mind, shifting your focus, When you meet with failure, never, ever, ever give up! Use self control to give a powerful and positive meaning to the situation and find the lesson and get up again.
6. Value yourself
When you value and respect yourself you stop settling for mediocre. You get what you settle for. Remind yourself their is nothing more important than that you become who you want to become and there is no one in your way but you. You can do, be and have anything you desire if you are willing to build the right mental attitude. You CAN do it, of course you can. Find value in yourself and in this life and you will be of great value to the world.
7. Stay inspired!
This is your duty! Stay inspired! Read books, look for others who have succeeded who are a positive role model. This will help you fuel your positive mental attitude instead of your negative one. If you don't work to stay inspired then when the going gets tough, and it will, you will not have the fuel or the confidence to keep going. Keep the burning desire to succeed alive!
May you remember how incredible you are. You can do it. Of course you can, if you believe.
If not now, when?

The power of appreciation! The better it gets, the better it gets!
One of the best ways to end one year and call in a powerful new one is through the power of appreciation. Appreciation is different from gratitude. Appreciation is the same vibration as love, says Abraham Hicks. When we are grateful we are usually grateful for having overcome something, therefore, we are including, in our thoughts, the vision of what we have overcome.
The more you practice appreciation the less resistance you have. The less resistance you have, the better your life will be. When there is no resistance, the things you desire will HAVE to flow into your life. The only thing between you and what you want is your resistance, your doubt, worry, fear, complaints or pessimism.
Be in a deliberate state of appreciation today. Go out of your way to appreciate others. See how deeply you can activate the vibration of appreciation in your body. When you feel tears of deep appreciation welling up you have reached it.
The holiday season is a perfect way to align yourself with the vibration of appreciation. Give holiday cards to as many people as you can and pour your appreciation on to them. What you give is what you get. I'll send you more tips on appreciation tomorrow.
I appreciate you and all of your loving support.
Go out there and appreciate life, others and your self.
Love,

Non members are welcome! Equinox 19th and broadway 12-2. Members free, non-members 25$ so bring your friends. They will appreciate it! You can buy a book at the event or online at Satilife.com. Please rsvp@satilife.com. For non members to register go to satilfe.com I hope to see you there!
Love,
Patricia

7 Secret Principles to Thinner Peace The warrior declaration.
When I was in my 20's I was willing to do anything to lose weight. I did diets, diet pills, drugs and exercised, at one point, up to 8 hours a day and somehow it was never enough. Even though I was thin, I was depressed and constantly in fear of getting fat. Finally I had had enough. This book is written for anyone who wants thinner peace and is no longer willing to simply go for thinner at any cost. It is also for those who want to embrace who they are physically and spiritual and live the life of a warrior not a worrier.
(In the last blog I talked about the difference between living as a warrior and not a whiner. If you didn't read that post, scroll down and check it out. )
So how do you get serious about making that change from simply complaining or worrying to intending and believing? Sati, mindfulness and intention. The way we make a change is by bringing awareness into our life. The fist step is noticing, without judgement, how you feel and what you are doing? Are you happy, depressed, feeling good, alive? Then take full responsibility for how you feel.
Once you take full responsibility for how you feel then take full responsibility for changing it. Own it, take your power and embrace it. Remind yourself of it everyday
Then intend your future to be better, healthier and brighter.
One simple thing you can do is to read the warrior declaration everyday for 30 days. And if you really want to get it into the fabric of your being, read it aloud and in the mirror first thing in the morning and last thing at night. This one very simple exercise is subtly powerful but only if you commit. Try it and see for yourself. You will begin to notice the words popping up in your mind all day long and they will help guide you in making new choices which lead to a new you.

SATI WARRIOR DECLARATION
Today I stand as a warrior and I choose to be all I can be.
I stand for excellence in all areas of my life.
I look for confidence and approval in my own heart and mind, and what you think of me makes no difference.
I know that it is ultimately how I feel about myself that gives me the experience of my life, and shame, guilt, regret, resentment are the most deadly of all opponents. The only way they can be defeated is by absolute integrity, or the absence of contradiction between what I know, what I profess, and what I do. I know that when I lie to myself I am severed from my truth, which is my power, and an inharmonious relationship to my truth is deadly.
No one is born a warrior, just like no one is born an average man. We make our selves that way by the accumulation of steps we take towards one or the other. I know the power of my mind and I begin every journey confident of victory. I am only defeated when I have accepted defeat, and the moment I turn my back on my self and my vision may be the moment I halt just short of my goal, and I will make useless all my previous efforts. My work is to discover my work and with all my heart give myself to it, and by honoring this path I will achieve the greatest victory of all, a life of love, a life I love, and a life well lived.
Today I choose the path of the warrior.

Change your mind, change your body, Change your life
There are two ways to look at things as a warrior or a worrier. Do you live with your attention on what you don't want or you are trying to avoid, or what you do want or are willing to welcome into your life. Are you a worrier or a warrior?
Worrier or whiner
Complains about her weight more often than not
Talks about how he knows he is never going to lose weight
Thinks about going on a diet often but rarely follows through
Starts a diet but then gets off it and gains more weight than before
Prefers not to look in the mirror
When looking in the mirror looks at what he doesn't like
Talks about how hard it is to change
Worries about getting fat
Believes thin will bring happiness and thinner peace
Warrior
Accepts where she is and takes responsibility to make a change
instead of talking about what he hates about himself focuses on the changes he wants to make
Looks for ways to stay inspired and motivated
Does not look for trendy new diets but ways to make healthy living a lifestyle
Values feeling good
Loves and values her body as her gift and is not only focused on thin at any cost
Knows that happiness is the way to thinner peace
Most often what I see is that those that are successful in creating a healthy lifestyle have more characteristics of the warrior then the worrier. If you keep your attention on what you are trying to avoid instead of inspiring yourself by focusing on who you want to become, it will be very difficult to find thinner peace.
How will you know if you are being a warrior or a whiner? Notice how you feel. If you make feeling good a daily intention and you notice when you are not feeling good you can be sure that it is what you are giving your attention to that is making the difference. If you are complaining, criticizing or judging yourself, your situation or your body you will not feel good. Be willing to let it go and choose something to appreciate or simply ask yourself, "is this thought supporting or interfering with my goal?" If the answer is that it is interfering, do what you can to change it. Give your attention to something else until you feel better, inspired, motivated or simply relief.
Change your mind, change your body, change your life!
Enjoy it,
Patricia
